(Virginia Beach, Virginia) - Sept. 24, 2009 - To face breast cancer is a formidable and daunting journey for any woman and for many newly diagnosed patients it can be overwhelming.

To bring some much needed funding, relief and information to these women during such a stressful time, local groups, businesses and organizations are teaming up with Rockafeller’s Restaurant and skirt! Magazine to host a “Rock the Cure” party on Wednesday, October 14th, at Rockafellers Restaurant.

No stranger to cancer, Rockafeller’s owner, BJ Baumann, lost her husband Frank- founder of Rockafellers Restaurant-almost 10 years ago.  Knowing that it takes a village, BJ and longtime friend and cancer survivor, Fran Johnson are tackling Breast Cancer Awareness Month head-on.

“It’s refreshing that the month of October not only brings more awareness to breast cancer but also plants the seed that we can help these women through community events and organizations such as “Rock the Cure,” says Baumann.

“Rock the Cure” is an all day event where 10% of all the proceeds from Rockafeller’s sales will be split between the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the American Cancer Society and all funds raised will help local women dealing with breast cancer.  One goal of the day is to help raise money to purchase new wigs for the American Cancer Society’s, “Look Better, Feel Better” program as it has come to light that they are greatly needed as their funding has been taken away to purchase new wigs.

In addition, from 5pm-9pm upstairs, Rockafeller’s will be hosting an information symposium for women with breast cancer to attend to learn about everything from yoga and breath work for patients to ask questions about breast oncology surgery treatments.  Among those on hand during the information symposium will be Dr. Jennifer Reed, Breast Oncology Surgeon from Sentara Hospital, certified nutritionist and breast cancer survivor, Fran Johnson, Jan’s Gym, Aveda Cosmetics, The Best Body Co., Angela Phillips Yoga Studio, The American Cancer Society, Gayle’s Wigs and more!  All are welcome to attend.

Says Rockafeller’s owner, BJ Baumann, “We want all breast cancer patients to have a good outcome and get well and one way we can help them feel better while they fight the disease is to provide an evening where they can find information on how to look better, feel better, eat better and soon get better.”

Those coming to participate in “Rock the Cure” are welcome to bring a clean, gently used or new wig, hat, scarf or turban as a donation and help “Rock Out” with pink drinks and lots of fun raffles.
