At the center of this magnificent city stands King Neptune in all of his omnipotence. He’s the picture of strength, health and virility here in Virginia Beach. This is a proud city and a city that prides itself on, and has been nationally recognized for, the healthy lifestyle it promotes through its various walking and biking trails, recreation centers and the general healthy consciousness of its locals. Now, several of the best restaurants on and around Rudee Inlet have chosen to help facilitate this healthy lifestyle by announcing that they are making the choice to go non-smoking in their dining rooms. By April 1st, Big Sam’s Raw Bar, Rockafeller’s, Rudee’s and Waterman’s will all be converting their inside bars and dining rooms to non-smoking. In the minds of these restaurant owners, this is a decision whose time has come. In addition, they feel that their choice also demonstrates support for upcoming legislation to make all restaurants statewide go non-smoking. Many of these restaurants have been around for 20 years or more and have employees who have worked for them equally as long. This decision will not only affect their diners, but the employees and owners will now not have to breathe the smoke infused air night after night.
On Wednesday, April 25, to kick off their non-smoking status and to show their support for the American Cancer Society, Big Sam’s Raw Bar, Rockafeller’s, Rudee’s and Waterman’s will all be donating 10% of their sales to Virginia Beach’s American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Fighting cancer is an uphill battle, but by defeating secondhand smoke, we are one step closer to the cure. |
